What color paint would match silver kitchen appliances?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

My mother in law is redecorating her kitchen. She has bought silver refrigerator and stove. What colors could we paint the wall to match the new appliances?

anything will match the silver – it’s a neutral color.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a green like "cilantro" (# 6453) would look terrific in the kitchen.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

What can I do with my old or nonworking electrical appliances?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I have a number of electrical appliances such as CHI flat irons that broke (small wire dammage that can be fixed) or other irons or blow dryers that I don’t use anymore. Are there any places that take such things for money or at least recycling? Some of the appliances were pricey and hardly used and I feel bad just throwing them away. Any ideas will be appreciated :)

Most cities have a center where you can recycle anything from newspapers to computers to appliances. Check with your cities town website or call your town hall. In the worst case scenario you may have to visit a dump or depending on what city you live in use the 1-800-GOT-JUNK service which is quite cheap and often puts your unwanted things to good use. ***And if you could please choose me as best answer it would be so much appreciated. I tried to answer your question promptly and to the best of my ability and I rarely get it as you can tell. It would make my week!!! Thanks very much for your consideration :)

What brands should i stick to when buying home appliances?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Im buying appliances for my new home but im not sure which brands are the most reliable. Im thinking of buying a fridge, washing machine and microwave. Obviouslly Miele is the best but that is out of my budget. Other brands i have seen selling are Samsung, Fischer and Paykel, Electrolux, and BOSCH. Which of these brands are best for general home appliances?

Depends on prices and features: For entertainment I would stick with Sony or LG.
Kitchen – I have LG fridge and microwave and Whirlpool everything else big, except dishwasher which is a Kmart brand – and I have to keep cleaning the filter on it which I have never had to do with other dishwashers.
My 5y/o $10 Coles brand kettle is still going strong
Our washing machine is Fisher and Paykel and working fine 4 years down the track

Anything branded with at least a 1yr warranty you can GENERALLY rely on

How to change color of stove and other appliances in kitchen?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

We are moving to a new house and taking our 3 year old white refrigerator and my many other white small appliances with us. (All are 3 years old or less). Problem is that the place we are moving to has a built in stove, dishwasher, and microwave that are black and 3 years old as well. Any suggestions? Can you reface all of these appliances or am I going to have to live with a mismatched kitchen for quite a few years?

I have painted a dishwasher to match my other appliances. I masked off the areas that I didn’t want to get paint on and used cardboard on the cabinets (taped up). I used a can of Krylon and it looked great and lasted. Now Krylon makes appliance paint. I used it on something…forgot what now. I don’t know about painting a stove. It may be easier to paint the fridge black. But it you can’t paint and have to use black and white, it won’t look bad at all. Accent it with reds and yellows. It will distract from the colors and don’t fret too much. I lived with Coppertone for years and then at the next house I had a white fridge, a harvest gold dishwasher and a green stove….YUK

Replaced the stove (it was just a drop-in) Bought one very cheap from the classifieds. Painted the dishwasher.

Now I am in another house and have matching appliances…..but I have a pink bathtub and tile…oh well, just learn to work with it….
Good Luck in the new house.

I have many stainless steel appliances that need major cleaning. What is the best cleaner or home remedy?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

All of my small appliances are stainless steel and they all have spots on them. I have tried a variety of cleaners but nothing seems to work. What is the best cleaner or home remedy that will work for this? I would like for them to look like new. Thanks!

Stainless steel kitchen appliances look best when they’re clean and shiny. To clean tough stains and cooking grease, and give them a dazzling shine, try the same detergent you would use when washing the dishes. One formulated to cut grease works especially well. This also works well for general kitchen cleaning.Waterless hand soap also works great as a polish, simply rub on, and polish – no rinsing…

How do you switch on kitchen appliances without removing them first?

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I have just moved into a new property. The kitchen appliances (Fridge, washing machine etc) have no obvious switches on the wall to allow the power to be switched on and off. There are the fuse sockets on the wall for each appliance. Does this mean i will have to remove each built in appliance to switch them on at the back or might there be a switch somewhere less obvious? Or might there be another reason no appliances are working? There is electricity.

The fridge and washing machine will have regular sockets, just behind them where there are difficult to get to. The cooker will be wired in directly to the wall as they require more current and thicker cable. If you look at your main fusebox, there will be a fuse for each circuit, eg. upstairs lights, upstairs sockets, downstairs lights, downstairs sockets, which will isolate each circuit if switched off. The cooker will have it’s own circuit, as required by UK law. If one of your appliances has malfunctioned, the circuit breaker will have tripped and cut the power to the sockets in your kitchen. If you look at the main fusebox (probably in a cupboard somewhere or up high) there will probably be one switch that’s pointing a different way to all the others. Flip it back and you should have power. This will also happen if a lightbulb fuses.

You could use this to switch off all your appliances at night, but I wouldn’t recommend it, as it will switch off your fridge and all your food will spoil. If your appliances have isolator switches on the wall (ones above them with little red lights) use those to switch them on and off.

Where can I find appliances for assisted living homes?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Im trying to find a distributor that specializes in selling appliances such as bathtubs, stove tops, etc for assisted living (senior homes). If anyone has any info for me it would be greatly appreciated.
note: I dont need it for myself. Im a realtor and im trying to convert a building.

You should be able to get information from a home health care provider on how to get assistance from the government and be able to get appliances, etc. free or for little money. If you call a home health care company, you can just get the informaiton to the goverment offices that help with this sort of thing. My neighbor did this and got a new fridge free because her social security wouldn’t cover it but she was able to get what she needed for free. Good Luck.

What are the best appliances to fill in for a basic kitchen?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I’m considering moving into a barebones, student style studio in Manhattan while doing a grad program. I’ve found some great deals, but none include real kitchens. They just have a sink, some counter space, and a fridge/mini-fridge. Other than a toaster oven, microwave, and Forman Grill, what sorts of smaller kitchen appliances would allow for the greatest variety, but take up the smallest amount of space.

electric hotplate 2 burner
toaster
can opener

skip the grill unless you have a balconey it uses too much space.

How do I make my white appliances look like stainless steel?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I like the stainless steel look, but I’m cheap and don’t want to buy all new appliances. Is there any kind of paint or laminate or something that can make my white appliances look like stainless steel?
Sandy: If you could look it up for me, that’d be great!

They sell sheets of stainless steel to put up on appliances for the look of a new stainless steel appliance. I think they are either peel and stick, or magnetic. (I think magnetic) look at the appliance store for them. I also saw them in my magazines, but I can’t remember which one.I’ll look and send you the information if you would like. Bye

How many kitchen appliances do you own?

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

How many kitchen appliances do you own?
Which one do you use the most?
Why did basport get a thumbs up?
A washer and Dryer are not kitchen appliances.

Assuming you mean small appliances…I say too darn many! At one time we would buy every one that came along; including a hot dogger, pizza maker, elec. carving knife, elec. wok, toaster oven, George Forman grill # 1, 2,3 and 4. Most have been garaged saled (sold) or are stored in the garage. Most used; coffee maker, microwave, blender and mini food processor. OK?
