What can I do with my old or nonworking electrical appliances?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I have a number of electrical appliances such as CHI flat irons that broke (small wire dammage that can be fixed) or other irons or blow dryers that I don’t use anymore. Are there any places that take such things for money or at least recycling? Some of the appliances were pricey and hardly used and I feel bad just throwing them away. Any ideas will be appreciated :)

Most cities have a center where you can recycle anything from newspapers to computers to appliances. Check with your cities town website or call your town hall. In the worst case scenario you may have to visit a dump or depending on what city you live in use the 1-800-GOT-JUNK service which is quite cheap and often puts your unwanted things to good use. ***And if you could please choose me as best answer it would be so much appreciated. I tried to answer your question promptly and to the best of my ability and I rarely get it as you can tell. It would make my week!!! Thanks very much for your consideration :)

What brands should i stick to when buying home appliances?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Im buying appliances for my new home but im not sure which brands are the most reliable. Im thinking of buying a fridge, washing machine and microwave. Obviouslly Miele is the best but that is out of my budget. Other brands i have seen selling are Samsung, Fischer and Paykel, Electrolux, and BOSCH. Which of these brands are best for general home appliances?

Depends on prices and features: For entertainment I would stick with Sony or LG.
Kitchen – I have LG fridge and microwave and Whirlpool everything else big, except dishwasher which is a Kmart brand – and I have to keep cleaning the filter on it which I have never had to do with other dishwashers.
My 5y/o $10 Coles brand kettle is still going strong
Our washing machine is Fisher and Paykel and working fine 4 years down the track

Anything branded with at least a 1yr warranty you can GENERALLY rely on
